Bear Claw Ranch - Big Timber, Montana
Pittman/Dowell Pavilion - La Crescenta, CA
An 800 sq. ft. Garden Pavilion augments an immaculate 1,365 sq. ft. Neutra House on 5 ½ acres of high desert bordering the Angeles National Forest overlooking the L.A Basin. Wanting to respond to an architectural icon, but not copy it, the desire was for a structure more minimal than the house itself. Every line and material was applied in the leanest of means: a TREX Deck, hidden Vertical Awnings; a Corian Kitchen Counter; Gravel Roof with Steel Columns that prevent it from sailing away in seasonal 80 mph winds. At night, the dark columns and recessed LEDs cause the Canopy to appear like a UFO hanging in mid-air. Ultimately, all you see are two planes, the deck floating over the field and the canopy hovering above.
